In the The Rock Report of the Sierra Madre I stated that the Congress, after coming out of the great depression of the thirties (and the war) had paid down the debt acquired from deficit spending. yesterday I was looking for some data to backup a personal political debate with a friend, and I found the data for the table shown below. It shows that we have been in debt since 1945 although it really got out of hand in more recent decades. I had it in my mind that we were debt free in the last of the 1950's obviously a gross and false assumption on my part. My apologies for the mistake. --- Rock
