Chapter 3, Air Combat Maneuvering:

The skies are clear over Viet Nam. It was close to the end of hostilities. And many of the Migs would simply refuse combat. However, I employed some proven tactics to flush them out into the open.

This trick goes back to World War II. It was first used by marine pilots in the Coral Sea Campaign.
Here I lay in wait behind a Drinking establishment on the outskirts of Hanoi. Eventually a Mig comes out and as he makes the turn my sidewinder picks up his engine's "IR" signal. I pickle one off, and it's splash one Mig.


I don’t know if it was the tension, or just the coffee I had, but I needed to Jettison some fuel.
