Chapter 2, The Attack Mission: (Ground Attack)

My mission begins with a catapult launch.
Here I am off of Cat #1, one of four catapults on the Ranger. It’s quite a kick in the pants, from zero to 120 in 2 seconds.
Attack Squadron 25 escorts B-52G’s on one of the last Bombing missions over Viet Nam.
We are also loaded with bombs, once we have taken the bombers in, we were free to attack targets of opportunity.
Released from our escort duties, and after we attack a Mime Field, I do a low level pass For Strike Damage Assessment photos.
A Pit Stop. It's been a long mission and I had six cups of coffee before we launched.
On the way back to the ship, I required extra fuel, so I met up with our assigned tanker. A KA-6D, from VA 215 which is a squadron in our Carrier Air Wing.
